How to play Throw Throw Burrito Card Game

"Throw Throw Burrito" is an engaging party game that combines the strategic elements of card collection with the physical fun of dodgeball. Designed for 2-6 players aged 7 and above, the game involves collecting matching sets of cards while dodging and throwing soft foam burritos at opponents.

Game Components:

  • 120 Cards: Featuring various characters and actions.
  • 2 Foam Burritos: Soft, throwable toys central to the game's battles.
  • 7 Tokens: Including 6 Burrito Bruises and 1 Fear Me Badge.

Objective: Accumulate points by collecting sets of three matching cards. Certain combinations trigger battles where players throw burritos at each other. The goal is to avoid getting hit, as hits result in negative points. The player with the most points after two rounds wins the game.

Setup:

  1. Deal Cards: Shuffle the deck and distribute approximately 15 cards face down to each player, forming their Personal Draw Pile.
  2. Community Piles: Divide the remaining cards into two face-down Community Piles placed centrally.
  3. Place Burritos and Tokens: Position the foam burritos and Burrito Bruises within easy reach of all players.

Gameplay:

  • Simultaneous Play: There are no turns; all players draw and discard cards simultaneously.
  • Hand Limit: Players maintain a hand of up to five cards, drawing from their Personal Draw Pile and discarding to the left.
  • Forming Sets: Collect sets of three matching cards and place them face up in your Score Pile to earn points.
  • Triggering Battles: Playing three matching Battle Cards (Brawl, War, or Duel) initiates a battle:
    • Brawl: Players to your immediate left and right grab a burrito and attempt to hit each other.
    • War: All players, except the initiator, grab a burrito and try to hit any opponent.
    • Duel: The initiator selects two players (which can include themselves) to duel. They stand back-to-back, take three paces, turn, and throw on the count of "3, 2, 1, Burrito!"

Battle Outcomes:

  • Hit: The first player struck by a burrito loses the battle and takes a Burrito Bruise token, worth -1 point.
  • Miss: If a thrown burrito misses, it can be retrieved and thrown again until someone is hit.
  • Catching: Catching a burrito thrown at you results in the thrower losing the battle.

Ending a Round: A round concludes when all Burrito Bruise tokens have been distributed. Players tally their points: each set of three matching cards is worth +1 point, Battle Card sets are worth +2 points, and each Burrito Bruise is -1 point. The player with the highest score receives the Fear Me Badge. After two rounds, if the same player holds the Fear Me Badge, they win. If different players win each round, they duel to determine the overall victor.

Special Variants:

  • Two-Player Game: All battles are between the two players. On the first throw of each battle, players must pass the burrito behind their back before throwing.
  • Small Space Play: In confined areas, players must pass the burrito behind their back before the first throw to allow opponents time to react.
